First-fight essentials

Four inputs. One combat loop.

Move into position, hold a hostile to keep attacking, dodge danger, and cast the Heart equipped in your first slot.

First fight

The default pointer scheme combines movement, aiming, attacking, and nearby interactions without requiring a separate movement hand.

Position

Click where you want to go

Move to the clicked ground position; holding and dragging updates the destination.

Hold the target

Hostiles stay targeted for the hold. Interactables activate after the hero reaches them.

React

Dodge or cast

Spend a dodge charge to escape danger, or use an equipped Skill Heart to control the fight.

Attack without movingHold Control while holding the primary button to stop and keep firing the Wand toward the pointer.

Recover quicklyUse 1 for the highest-level carried health potion and 2 for mana.

Leave an expeditionHold B to return to the ship. An unfinished dimension is lost.

Movement modes

Choose the scheme that feels natural under Pause → Settings → Controls. Changing it applies immediately and does not alter hero saves.
DefaultClick-to-move

Click-to-move stores the clicked ground position and continues until the hero reaches it. Holding and dragging updates that destination.

  • Hold a hostile to approach and attack repeatedly.
  • Hold an interactable to approach and activate it.
  • Ctrl + click fires the Wand without moving.
OptionalWASD mode

Directional keys move through dimensions and across the ship. Holding the primary button fires the Wand every time it leaves cooldown.

  • F uses nearby interactions.
  • Pointer position still aims Wand attacks.
  • Directional keys pan the map in either mode.
Separate choice

Dash direction

Choose Mouse pointer to dash toward the current aim, or Hero movement to follow travel direction and use facing while stationary.

Wayfinder's TetherHold B

End the current expedition and return to the dimensional ship. An unfinished dimension is lost.

DodgeShift

Spend a dodge charge for a fast burst with a brief invulnerability window. Controls can aim the dash along hero movement or toward the pointer.

Advance dialogueF

Reveal the next dialogue line or continue to the next exchange.

InteractLeft-click targetF

Approach and use a pointer target, or use the accessible shortcut on a nearby chest, person, ship facility, Shard Array terminal, or Dimension Anomaly.

Aura and Passive Hearts activate automatically in slot 4. Night-Shift Thinking Cap also admits an Active Heart, which automatically targets nearby monsters at reduced output.

Close every open non-dialog panel on the left and right, the selected ship facility, and the loot chest.

Open the Class Tree in the pausing Heartbound progression view; close it with K or Escape.

Open the Heart Loadout directly; close it with H or Escape.

Open or close the active map viewer.

Pin the currently hovered item, Skill Heart, or Dimension Shard details as a draggable card with its own close button.

Town talkT

Open a nearby ship facility directly to its conversation, or close the selected conversation.

PausePEscape

Open settings with P, then resume with P or Escape. Hero loading and reset are available from settings.
